Organized on February 23, 1981, this chapter honors Thomas Holcomb (1601–1657), the colonial ancestor of Organizing President Jeanne S. Thornton. Born in Devon, England, Holcomb came to America with Puritans in 1630, settled in Dorchester, Massachusetts, and became a freeman in 1634. He married Elizabeth Ferguson, and they had eight children. A descendant, Grove Holcomb, and his wife Sarah Ann Lyell were among the early pioneers in the Truckee Meadows of Nevada, linking the chapter’s name to both colonial and Nevada history.
